The 2024–2025 winter brought mixed conditions across North American mint regions. The Willamette Valley saw a mild, wet winter with healthy fields and optimism, while Yakima and La Grande face water shortages due to low snowpack. Idaho’s water supply rebounded, ensuring good crop potential, and Canada’s mint acres will increase due to strong contracts and exchange rates. The Midwest had a dry but stable winter with good rootstock health. Native and Scotch spearmint crops wintered well, though water concerns persist in some Farwest areas. Overall, peppermint acreage is expected to rise in 2025, with steady spearmint acres.
Hot, dry weather has impacted planting materials for peppermint, spearmint, and arvensis crops in India. Peppermint and arvensis may see a 10–15% area decline, while spearmint could increase slightly due to high L-carvone prices. DMO/TRO prices remain stable, supported by balanced demand and some synthetic blending.
We look forward to staying in touch and seeing many of you out in the fields this summer!
